For more than 20 years, Mary Remmel Wohlleb has given her time to support students in single parents. She is their # 1 fan and her enthusiasm is contagious.
“You impress all the heck out of me!” She said about ASPSF’s recipients. “I know it’s been a struggle that many of you come from families where you are the first to pursue higher education to improve your lives and your children’s lives. I think it’s really remarkable.”

During her many years with the organization, Mary has worked in Pulaski County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Board of Director as his chairman for two years and was chairman of her student’s affairs. She has also served in the ASPSF unemployment committee and most recently ASPF CEO Search Committee. She is currently volunteering at the Scholarship Committee by reviewing applications and interviewing new students. She helps with scholarships ceremonies and participates in other ASPSF events.
To honor this incredible woman – who also generously donates to the ASPSF mission – has ASPF named her June 2024 Month of the Month Volunteers and Central Region 2024 Bonnie Nickol Volunteer of the Year.
Mary is grateful to her husband, Jim, who is her greatest supporter.
“I have known Mary since working with the organization in 2018, and she has made sure that each student felt invited and welcomed the program,” said ASPF Central Region program leader Keisha Williams. “This support means everything to our recipients.”
Mary said that seeing single parents -students reaching their academic and career goals has inspired her to stay involved in ASPSF for so long.
“To interview students and get to know many of them during their travels are heartwarming. Several of our aluminums have become dear friends over the years,” she said. “As a person who did not have trouble finance my education, even through three master’s degrees, get to know so many students without the privilege that also has children to care for and often jobs to maintain while I study, I admire our single parents!”
