Soon, you’ll be able to pay off your mortgage with Venmo

We’ve all heard of paying off the mortgage with a credit card, something that wasn’t possible until very recently.

It’s still technically not a direct option, but companies like Mesa and Bilt are making it happen in a roundabout way.

And starting next year, homeowners will be able to pay their mortgage through Venmo thanks to a new partnership with Bilt.

The pair announced a new deal that allows Bilt users to pay off the mortgage through Venmo while earning Bilt Rewards points in the process.

Venmo’s flexibility can also make it easier for co-borrowers to pay the mortgage every month.

Bilt users will be able to make mortgage payments through Venmo

The new partnership seeks to reinvent how people pay their rent or monthly mortgage payments each month.

We already know that Bilt is rolling out a way to get rewarded for every home loan you make.

And companies like Mesa allow you to earn one point for every dollar of your mortgage each month as long as you spend $1,000 each billing cycle on their Mesa Homeowners Card.

This takes things a step further by adding Venmo to the list of payment options for Bilt users, along with classic options like ACH, debit and any associated credit card.

Basically, Bilt members will be able to pay their rent/loan directly in the Bilt app or the Venmo app using a Venmo account balance, linked bank and possibly a linked card?

Not sure about the card part yet because Venmo charges users 3% when they send money via credit card.

Anyway, this new tie-up combines Bilt’s rental and rewards network (and soon to be mortgage rewards) with “Venmo’s trusted and social payment experience, giving millions of renters and homeowners a simple, flexible and rewarding way to pay each month.”

A possible benefit for Bilt members, aside from earning points on the rent or mortgage, is the ability to make monthly mortgage payments with just a few taps.

I don’t know about you, but my mortgage service providers don’t have the best smartphone apps or websites.

They are pretty clunky and since I don’t use autopay I have to visit their website every month and do the whole song and dance to make a payment.

I assume using Venmo would be much faster and easier, especially if you are able to set up recurring payments.

You can simply schedule the payments via the app and ensure that the mortgage is paid each month.

My understanding is that you can even make weekly, monthly and bi-weekly payments (hello bi-weekly mortgage!).

You will be able to split mortgage payments using Venmo and get rewarded

What is more interesting is if you happen to have roommates or co-borrowers on your mortgage.

If you’re making mortgage payments through Venmo with a co-borrower or roommate, you can likely make split payments.

Venmo allows you to split a specific transaction, such as a mortgage payment, or split payments on a regular basis using the Venmo Groups feature.

It also helps you manage and track group expenses and will automatically split the payment into equal amounts for all group members.

Not sure how often that would be a thing, but it’s an interesting thought, especially if everyone wants to earn points for their share of the housing payment.

Or if you have roommates/tenants who pay you via Venmo, you can simply transfer the money to your loan provider without having to move money around twice.

Venmo touted the move as one of the first steps in its broader strategy to transform from a peer-to-peer payments app into an “everyday commerce platform.”

I suppose to function more like a bank where you can pay for core expenses like your rent or mortgage, rather than just paying friends for dinner.

The new feature is expected to launch in early 2026, along with the ability to earn Bilt points to pay off the mortgage.

As for showing everyone (flexes) how much your mortgage payment is each month through the social feed on Venmo, I’m not so sure.
